The USS Juneau refers to several ships of the United States Navy, all named after the city of Juneau, Alaska. Here's information on the most well-known of these ships:
USS Juneau (CL-52):
A Atlanta-class cruiser commissioned in 1942.
Famed for its role in the Guadalcanal Campaign during World War II.
Tragically sunk during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942 by a Japanese submarine torpedo.
Notably, all five Sullivan brothers were serving aboard the USS Juneau (CL-52) and lost their lives in its sinking. Their deaths led to the Sole Survivor Policy, intended to prevent entire families from serving together in combat.
Other USS Juneaus:
USS Juneau (CL-119): A Juneau-class cruiser commissioned after World War II.
